Press Release

As part of the Create Artist in the Community Award 2021,  Silvia Loeffler has worked with Dublin City Libraries to create three site-specific public artworks in response to the Central Library and its location in the inner heart of the city.

“City Routes: A Deep Mapping of Dublin’s Central Library” is an artistic mapping cartography project that documents changes and memories of the Central Library and its place in Henry Street and Moore Street.

The 3 installation pieces in the library  – (1) orange/violet routes in the central area – (2) red/green routes in the fiction area – (3) pink/blue routes in the music library  – are reflections on the shared values of the library as a free civic space. The installation as a whole acknowledges the librarians’ work in this space, and the care and the attention that staff provide to all visitors on a daily basis.

City Routes signifies the commonality that we have with others, despite of all our differences, that we have a common purpose to avail of this space no matter what our age or background or income is. The circulars as viewing points in the installation pieces allow for a reflection on our sense of belonging to the library, and the fabric is gently holding our routes through the city, and the connections that we can make that bring us together.
